How old do you have to be to enter the shop?
No one under age 16 is allowed in the shop. This is not our policy, this is state law. This includes young children and infants. We can not be liable for any hazards to young children. Please understand we are on the second floor up a flight of steps that could be hazardous to toddlers. Due to the sensitive and permanent nature of the work being done here, we need to avoid any unexpected screams or other distractions an unaware child may cause. We also want to avoid exposing children to any imagery that parents may feel is inappropriate. No exceptions will be made. We apologize for any inconvenience to parents and babysitters.
How old do you have to be to get a piercing?
You must be 18 years old to obtain a piercing without the consent of your legal guardian. Anyone caught using a fake ID will have the ID confiscated. The minor’s parents will be held responsible for any legal action taken by the city or state. Minors of 16 years or more may receive certain piercings with the consent of their legal guardian.
I am between 16 and 18, what can I get pierced?
Any piercing other than surface or genital. Minors may only get pierced with the consent of a legal guardian. You must have a legal guardian present at the time of the piercing. You both must bring state issued picture ID cards. Our minor policies exist both to protect our clientele and to uphold current laws. HFS 173.05 (1)(b) No person under 18 years of age shall be body pierced unless that person has an informed consent form signed by his or her parent or legal guardian in the presence of the operator. (c) No person under 16 years of age shall be body pierced

You must be at least 18 years of age to receive a tattoo. While the State of Wisconsin allows a minor to receive a tattoo with a physician’s consent, we do not honor this actice. NO ONE under the age of 18 will receive a tattoo from Blue Lotus Tattoo. Anyone caught using a fake ID will have the ID confiscated. How do I care for my piercing or tattoo?
Never use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on a piercing or tattoo. Any other questions can only be answered in person. We will not give out information over the phone or e-mail. The body is a complex organism and each person reacts differently. If you are concerned about the condition of you piercing or tattoo, seek medical attention.
No, every needle is disposed of after use on a client. Reusing needles is unprofessional and poses a health risk. The State of Wisconsin and City of Madison allows the reuse of tattoo needles. We fought against it but they didn’t listen.
How do you sterilize your equipment?
We use an autoclave. It runs at 260o - 270o at 27 - 30 psi. It is cleaned every two weeks and is given a spore test once a month. A spore test verifies that an autoclave is working properly (killing all living organisms). How? We are given a packet of two very resilient strains of bacteria – bacillus sobtillis and bacillus stearothermophilus. We run the packets through the autoclave and send the results to an independent laboratory for evaluation. If our autoclave is able to kill these forms of bacteria, it is working properly and will kill any virus or bacteria -including HIV and hepatitis. The results of our spore tests are kept on site and can be viewed by anyone who is nterested.
In order to maintain a calm relaxed environment only one friend is allowed to observe a piercing or tattoo.

All designs are property of Blue Lotus Tattoo. We do not allow designs to leave the shop
